ANZAC speech 2012
2mins ANZAC speech
Hello my name is Shalagh and I am from Burnham School
To quote John mccrae's Flanders field poem we are the dead short days ago we lived ,felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved and were loved and now we lie in Flanders fields .
take up quarrel with the foe to you from failing hands we throw the torch be yours to hold it high if ye break faith with us who die we shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders field.
So why u ask do we wear the poppy ,we wear it in tribute to those who died so we may know peace ,so we may hold our heads up high in the knowledge that we belong to this great country and to know that this right was bought in the blood of our ancestors , why do we lay wreaths because it is a sign of respect to those who bravely fought for their peace.
Why do we still fight ,we fight because our absent friends have passed on the torch to us to hold high so that they may sleep and know the poppies will grow above them in peace.
How much is a soldiers life worth ,a short few weeks ago my grandfather passed on the torch to be held high and so it is now ours to hold high,he has gone to the great lodge in the sky with the knowledge that we are left to grow old ,we now have the task to go on and we will do as is right regardless of the cost.
